This Week Meet Jack Smith, Academy Award Winner, Rocket Scientist, and 7th District City Council Candidate
On Swoop’s World Radio Wednesday night March 17th at 9pm our guest will be Jack Smith, candidate for Long Beach City Council 7th District. Join us as we get to know Jack and learn what ideas this Oscar winning, Rocket Scientist has for the future of Long Beach.
Jack Smith, a resident of the Wrigley area of Long Beach, is a candidate for the 7th District City Council seat. He has been and continues to be an outspoken, effective community volunteer. He says the biggest challenge to the City in the next few years will clearly be the budget and how that affects the residents.
While dealing with the budget, he says his focus will continue to be on preserving the safety and quality of life in the neighborhoods and sees the community’s diversity as an important strength of the City. “The diversity of cultures and economics in the 7th District are particularly striking”, he says. “I believe it is important to listen and understand the expectations of the residents of the various neighborhoods and to effectively engage them in accomplishing those expectations with an appropriately good quality of life.” Making sure the residents are aware and engaged in the process is extremely important to making Long Beach be the kind of city its residents want. To stay in touch with residents, he regularly attends and participates in events and meetings throughout the District as well as across the city.
Smith has served on various planning committees, a city Committee and a city Board. “Through those experiences, I have a better understanding of the challenges and rewards of working with my colleagues and City Staff to achieve important goals that benefit the 7th District and the City.”
