Dick Monda “Daddy Dewdrop” Returns to Swoop’s World Late Night
On Wednesday August 24, 2011, 8pm-11pm/PST we are happy to have singer/songwriter Dick Monda aka “Daddy Dewdrop” return to Swoop’s World Late Night. After Dick, we’ll be taking on all topics, and of course our regular Brewskis, sports, and any other news of the day segments. Tune in at Swoopsworld.com.
Monda’s first record was released a year before he graduated with a degree in mathematics. “When I heard it on the radio, I was hooked. Although it took over a hundred releases before I had a hit I was driven to succeed.” Said Monda. “By this time, I had a wife and two children and times were tough. When my first song charted, Soul Drippin’ by the Mauds out of Chicago, I gained a small foothold.” Eventually his songs were recorded by, Tom Jones, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Kenny Rogers, Engelbert Humperdinck, Frankie Laine, Sammy Davis Jr., The Standells, Papa John Creach, Wolfman Jack, The Righteous Brothers, Rufus, The Chi-Lites, Ringo Starr and others totaling around six hundred recordings.
Dick Monda wrote the song “Chick-A-Boom” for the cartoon, Sabrina and the Groovie Goolies. The song was re-recorded and distributed by Sunflower Records, and released a full album of novelty based tunes, including “Chick-A-Boom” and was retitled “Chick-A-Boom (Don’t Ya Jes’ Love It)”. The tune was a hit in the US, peaking on the Billboard Pop Singles chart at #9 in 1971, and #3 on Cashbox. A second single, “Fox Huntin’/The March of the White Corpuscles” and also his further release, “Nanu Nanu (I Wanna’ Get Funky With You)” from 1978.
About Chick-A-Boom, Monda say’s “My biggest selling record was one I produced myself under the name Daddy Dewdrop. Although I only had one hit under this name I did end up on the wall of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the One Hit Wonders room.”
After our interview with Dick Monda we’ll be up to all of our usual fun including beer tasting, sports and food during “Brewskis” Beer Tasting sponsored by DrinksWinesSpirits.com, Taylor’s segment of T-Bones Timeout, and Chris’ CLiv’s Real Estate Report.
This week on “Brewskis” Beer Tasting sponsored by DrinksWinesSpirits, we are tasting Declaration Ale From American Honor Beer Company, Wilkes-Barre, PA.
