Robin Keeble and Mind The Gap on Late Night
On Wednesday November 30, 2011, 8pm-11pm/PST Swoop’s World Late Night returns after taking a break over Thanksgiving, and are happy to welcome a couple of returning guests as well. First up our friend and social activist Robin Keeble of AKA Angels joins us. Robin will fill us in on all the happenings with AKA Angels as well as what, if any, effects new changes with the California prisons will have on communities. Next up we are thrilled to have the band Mind The Gap in studio. Some of you may remember that Ru Samath of Mind The Gap joined us a few months back, but this time you’ll have a chance to meet all of the guys of the band that has just recently been nominated for the 2012 All Indie Music Awards. After our guests we’ll be taking on all topics, and of course our regular Brewskis, sports, and any other news of the day segments. Tune in at Swoopsworld.com.
Robin Keeble
Robin was a drug addict who prostituted herself or committed burglaries for money to buy heroin. Her habit kept her in and out of jail for 22 years.
In 1996 she was released from prison and homeless. She was in La Palma Park in Anaheim, sharing needles with other homeless junkies when an AIDS Outreach Project worker approached her and asked if she was hungry and if she had a safe place to sleep. He offered her a free HIV test, food vouchers, and help getting into a drug rehabilitation program.
Since that time Robin has become sober, earned her Associate’s Degree in 2002, followed by a Bachelors Degree in Human Services in 2005 and Master’s in Public Health from Cal State Fullerton in 2008. Along the way she’s received recognition, awards and garnered the admiration of the faculty of various institutions.
Robin is the director of the AKA Angels; A women’s civic group that meets quarterly in support of women that have been released from incarceration. The goal of the AKA Angels is to offer support during transition and community integration. She is also involved with Community Advisory Representatives; a peer based mentoring group for those incarcerated in the Orange County Jail system.
Mind The Gap
A Korean, a Sri Lankan, a Mexican, and a Jew from Cleveland. 4 musicians from 4 corners of the world aiming to shotgun blast through the insipid airwaves of current music using acoustic harmonies fused with modern technology.
Mind the Gap formed in 2008 when singer/songwriter duo, Cahn & Yang, met music producers, Ru & Ozzy, of The Bird Call. The collaboration was formed with the help of Music Supervisor, Jonathan McHugh, and the group quickly got to work on main title songs for several films including Mass Animation: Live Music and The Education of Charlie Banks. They were also commissioned to write theme songs for TV shows on Discovery, A&E, History, VH1, and Playboy TV.
While licensing music, they have also been performing across the country with shows in LA, NYC, and Chicago, to name a few. Mind the Gap played at High Sierra Music Festival ’10, CMJ Music & Film Marathon ’10 & ’11, Canadian Music Fest ’11, and Vancouver’s The Kulth Music Festival ’11. While on tour, they received media attention, being awarded AOL’s Spinner Download of the day. They are set to release their debut album, ‘The Good Fight’ in Fall 2011. The group rests their heads in Los Angeles, CA.
After our interviews with Robin Keeble and Mind The Gap, we’ll be up to all of our usual fun including beer tasting, sports and food during “Brewskis” Beer Tasting sponsored by DrinksWinesSpirits.com, Taylor’s segment of T-Bones Timeout, and Chris’ CLiv’s Real Estate Report.
This week on “Brewskis” Beer Tasting sponsored by DrinksWinesSpirits, we are tasting Jamaica Red Ale From Mad River Brewery located in Blue Lake, California.
