Swoop’s World Live Broadcast Benefit for UNICEF at Cafe Audrey
On Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 6pm PST we will be broadcasting live from a benefit for UNICEF entitled “A Valentine for the Democratic Republic of the Congo.”
Civil Unions For All is holding a benefit for UNICEF at Cafe Audrey located at 6701-B Hollywood Boulevard at Las Palmas, in Hollywood, California, on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. The cafe is named after Audrey Hepburn and was chosen as the site for the benefit because Audrey Hepburn was UNICEF’s first Goodwill Ambassador. She started working for UNICEF in the 1950′s and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1992 in recognition of her work.
This benefit is a Valentine to the women and children of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Hundreds of women and children are raped in the DRC each day, thousands each month. The DRC has long been war-torn and despite recent “peace” the rapes continue. Please read these attachments for more information about the situation and what UNICEF is doing to help: 11-09 UNICEF, DRC VDAY; 11-7-08 UNICEF IN THE DRC.
There is a sliding scale donation requested of $5.00 to $25.00 — more if you can, less if you can’t. You are also invited to make a donation here to ensure your money goes to UNICEF’s DRC assistance program if you are unable to attend the benefit.
The benefit will feature local up and coming stand-up comics including Jimmy Zee, and Andy Quinn (graduates of Judy Carter‘s Comedy Workshop), Big Dave, Wes Greasen, and local songwriters and musicians, including Derek Haugen, Paul Weitz, and Mary Ann Vorasky.
