John Kaye on Late Night
On Wednesday November 16, 2011, 8pm-11pm/PST we are happy to welcome musician John Kaye as our guest on Swoop’s World Late Night. After John we’ll be taking on all topics, and of course our regular Brewskis, sports, and any other news of the day segments. Tune in at Swoopsworld.com.
“Music is not an option for me. It’s my heritage.” ~ John Kaye
I’ve traversed the world in my youth with many bands. I played the Vegas circuit for over 25 years in several different genres. As an original songwriter I opted to pursue my own original material in 2008 and moved to L.A. I’ve not looked back. My sound is unique in style and presentation. There is nothing currenlty in the industry like the music we put out. It is always well received by listeners wherever I go.
I am proud to be playing with 2 of my all time favorite players. Rich Niego & Iain Hersey who are monster musicians in their own right.
I was named after my Grandfather, Johnny “Ukulele” Kaaihue, the Worlds Most Reknowed Master Of The Ukulele. His father, my great Grandfather, Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole was the last Hawaiian Royal to be buried in Hawaii in full Regalia with a Hawaiian Royal Honor gaurd procession in 1922. We are all relatives of the Royal Hawaiian family of Hawaii. My father, Norman Kaye is the State Poet Emeritius of Nevada and he wrote songs for many celebrities including Johnny Mathis and Perry Como. My Aunt, Mary Kaye is “The First Lady Of Rock” and the namesake of The Mary Kaye Stratocaster Fender Custom Guitar. This is the first custom guitar made by Leo Fender and the first guitar ever named after a person. Her group The Mary Kaye Trio are the Pioneers of The Las Vegas Lounge Scene. They created the first ever late night lounge act in Las Vegas. She was also inducted into The Musicians Hall Of Fame with Ella Fitgerald and Sarah Vaughn by Louis B. Armstrong in 1961. She was also one of the top female jazz guitarists of all time. Sadly, she passed away at the age of 83 on February 17th, 2007. I miss her deeply. She was also my mentor and mother to me.
My Cousin and Brother, Jay Kaye is the Blue Messiah of Spain and one of the most flawless guitar players alive. Cousin Henry Kapono is 1/2 the famous duo named Cecilio and Kapono. He is also known as the Wild Hawaiian.
On April 30th, 2011 John Kaye was inducted into the Las Vegas Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
After our interview with John Kaye, we’ll be up to all of our usual fun including beer tasting, sports and food during “Brewskis” Beer Tasting sponsored by DrinksWinesSpirits.com, Taylor’s segment of T-Bones Timeout, and Chris’ CLiv’s Real Estate Report.
This week on “Brewskis” Beer Tasting sponsored by DrinksWinesSpirits, we are tasting Red Wagon IPA From Fire Island Beer Company located in Saratoga Springs, New York.
