James Eeday
James Eeday (a.k.a. James Ide) the magnetic Japanese/American front man of the Southern California dance hall band URBYN FYRE is warmly familiar and radio friendly while always staying true to roots and street style. With a soul-touching vocal quality, he immediately draws the listener’s attention with his ability to switch from a captivating singing voice to Jamaican style rap called ‘toasting’.
This Los Angeles-born California native is also a skilled keyboardist and guitarist heralding from the highly respected Dick Grove School of Music. Fronting URBYN FYRE, James Eeday has performed in highly regarded rooms such as The Roxy, The Beverly Hills Hotel, Highlands, The Comedy Store, The Roxbury, The Cat & Fiddle and The Coach house to name a few.
James has opened for such artists as Steel Pulse, Burning Spear, Pato Bantan and Eek-A-Mouse and has also been honored to perform for Sheryl Crow and producer Bill Bottrell at his hilltop estate in Glendale, CA. James is able to connect with his audience in an almost spiritual way, whether in his Marley-style idiom of RISE UP (featured in the Disney movie The Jennie Project), or his smooth soul/R&B presentation of TOGETHER. He is one of the few artists who has been able to successfully combine an original melodic vocal style with dance hall reggae toasting (Jamaican rap) to create a sound all his own. Aside from his band, James recently began performing as a solo singer/songwriter to rave reviews and has already received airplay on KROQ, KSBR and KCRW as well as been featured in the soundtracks to the films Breaking the Rules, Jamaica Beat, In Too Deep and the Alan Rudolph movie, Sandcastle.
After our interview with James Eeday we’ll be up to all of our usual fun including “Brewskis” Beer Tasting sponsored by DrinksWinesSpirits.com, sports talk, rants and more.
This week we’ll be tasting Hefe Weiss by Sprecher Brewing Company located in Glendale, WI.
